Net book Reflection 2012

I have just completed me first year with my net book. This is my 2012 net book reflection. 
I am are year 6 student who has enjoyed this journey having a net book for the first time.

The thing I most enjoyed about net books was? Having to learn new things like short cuts, ctrl c is to copy and Learning to be cyber smart by checking more than one site when looking for information because some of the internet sites are lies meaning not real or true.

What was the most interesting thing about having a net book? The most  thing that was interesting about having net book was that you could have different ways to help are friend with their work. For EG: You could post a comment on their blog or send them and email. Another way to help them is to ask them to share their work with you and they would, which means you could also post comments or help them out by editing their work for them. 

How did you feel getting a net book? At first sight I was so amazed and excited that goose bumps  appeared and second of all I wondered what kind of learning we would do until 'WOW' it was cool, We got to be creative in our way and we never had to wait for a very long time to go on the computer just to find a single information.

Why this?Why climate change?Are we doing the damage?
Everyday is a normal day until you get an unexpected surprise when the power bill arrives.I find it irritating that everyday we try and make a difference in OUR world  by telling people. ‘To be warm this winter buy this heater for only two ninety nine.’ What about them?What about their world?If you don’t know who ‘them’ is look in Antarctica.Polar bears  will soon have no ice!To walk on or to even hunt on.If the ice melts sea water will rise which cause floods and tsunamis.

Everybody has to point a finger at someone or something. They live.They walk.They breathe.They are part of this world. If water level rises pacific islands could be gone and washed away. For Eg: Tokalau is are small island and those people might lose their homes. Water will rise, drowning islands.

Do you know why hot days get really hot ? That is because there are many cars driving, planes flying and factories adding more co2  constantly puffing out smoke(Carbon Dioxide). This Co2 covers us all like a blanket which can cause droughts or even storms such as a cyclone  which affect the bottom of the sea, coral reefs destroying homes for these sea creature. If we rewind this whole part of Co2 we can produce a better planet for us humans.

These power bills can be lowered. Complaints are always pouring in about ‘my power bill is rising and we haven’t done a single thing!’ Well you are leaving taps leaking, letting the lights light up  room that’s already lit by the sun!This one day, I was helping my mum make a salad.Drip.Drop.Drip.Drop.Then...WHOOSH.I look at the tap.It was crying water.The drips and streams of water cascading down onto the bare sink.I looked at my mum calmly chopping cucumber into four quarters.I sighed ‘Turn off the tap....it’s wasting energy.’

Half the pie is bitter.That bitter half is us wasting energy twenty four seven.However on the other slice of the pie.Is a world a world where they use reusable light bulbs.More solar panels.They’ve expanded the use of wind mills.All these things generate power to our homes and to the world.Therefore we must save energy which can save the world.

We look at the stars wishing that the world could be a better place.We can make it a better place if we use renewable energy.

Where is this difference? But really...Who’s the difference?

Team Building

Today we learnt about team building skills. We first were put into groups of three and then had to cross our arms and hold our teammates hands then once Whaea Annette said “GO!” We then started  to untangle our hands. I was really proud of my team because we never gave up and we took risks. After we had finished that, we then had boys vs girls and we had done that we then talked about what we should do and all the girls were focusing. Then we all had the same idea and used one another skilled and used them all. Finally we had been untangled and we all were happy. I liked the way my team had faith in them and never gave up. They also used a lot of cooperation and teamwork.

YOUR VS YOU'RE



Today we have been learning about What is the difference between your and you're? If you are wondering what are the difference between them both I'll would be honoured to explain.? Well the difference between them both is that your means that it belongs to you. You own it or have it. For e.g: your T-shirt or your Family. The other you're is just 2 words put together to make 1 word like a conjunction. This you're can be mainly used to go with describing words for e.g: you're amazing or you're a teacher or you're fantastic.

Remember to only use your when you own it or have it and you're is a conjunction. Hope you like it and remember to leave a comment.

NZ Shake Out Day!

Today was New Zealand's National Shake Out Day. At 9:26 there was an earthquake drill. I was at my desk, so I dropped, covered and held to stay safe. One thing we did well at TPS was that we all immediately crawled under our desk and every one had done it great job for their first go. One thing I want to work on next time is we couldn't hear the bell very clearly and didn't know when to come out of our desk. Our meeting place is in the hall. Remember, in the event of an earthquake.... Drop, Cover, Hold.

Why we should celebrate Arbor Day?

Arbor Day is a national holiday created to recognize the importance of trees. Arbor day is a good idea to celebrate because some of the trees were felled to build canoe (waka) and our houses (whare). More than 80 percent of the land was covered in trees. We as tamaki primary school think its a good idea to celebrate Arbor day
We celebrate arbor day because it shows our wonderful timber around the world.
Arbor day was created in the United states when they had sold their timber overseas and then that became a business so then we thought that we would have an anue timber day but call it arbor day.
Bad Points
We as Tamaki Primary School think its bad to cut down our trees. We should think better before cutting down our trees and think about what will happen with our trees in the future.Huge numbers were felled and sent to Australia, Britain and California. Between 1990 and 1920 almost a quarter of our native tree (Timber) was sold overseas.In the Native forest in 1000 A.D. there was plenty of trees back in the past and in forest 1840 there was heaps of trees but not much like 1000s Native forest and then in Forest in 2005 our country didn’t have much trees left

Arbour day.
Arbour day first began in the United States in 1872. It was first celebrated in New Zealand in 1890. Today, Arbour Day is a time when people plant trees and all other kinds of things that can be planted and about the importance to our environment.

Day Two Observation

Day 2 Observations  Days are gone by and today we are investigating the leaves with Vaseline on and the plants are dying and leaves. The plants are dying because they are suffocating because they can not breathe in our bad carbon dioxide. We are going to put a bit more vaseline and let’s see if it would fully dye or it would stay the same as it looks like now?

Day One Obesrvation

Observations (What happened?  What changed?  How?):
Today we are looking at our plant with the Vaseline that was put on the leaf has made the leaf smoother and softer  Couldn’t breath out the oxygen but can breath in carbon dioxide because the vaseline was blocking it.Roots had appeared.A lot of Vaseline is still on some leaves which feels slimy. A new small leaf had came up. What would happen if we left the Vaseline on the leaves of the plants? Would the plant grow more roots if we leave it for 5 days?

My Rainbow's End Trip.

As I heard my my nana’s car parking up the driveway and her footsteps slithering closer and closer to the door. I was afraid because it was my very first time going to Rainbow’s End and my heart felt like it was beating a million miles an hour.When I hopped into the car I saw my uncle Josh and his sister Katalina. I was happy to see them but was scared at the same time.

The 15 minute ride felt like 5 seconds. As we drove past the entry sign my brain was absolutely empty and the only thing I could think of was; what if something bad happened to me? What if all the rides were high? I was scared of heights.  What if people mock me because I’m a scaredy cat? What if I just wasted my nana’s money when she could be buying better things than  spending it on this expensive place when I didn’t like it? Well that is what I was thinking of. While the car parked up my heart was still beating as fast as a cheetah and my cheeks started to burn like fire at my mid summer camp. When we entered Rainbow’s End I looked at all the rides and “WOW” was the only word I could use to describe the place, I was absolutely speechless. After we paid our tickets we had to wrap them around our hands like wrist bands and off we went.

When we walked around Rainbow’s End wondering what we should go on first I was thinking please don’t go on something too high or something that goes in circles so I don’t spew up on people. Then we walked past a ride called the Bumper Boats, and I definitely wanted to go on it because it wasn’t to high or to spinny, so it was perfect.  When we went to go in line It was cool because no one wanted to go to it and we were the only one in line. After showing our tickets to the man we had got to have a turn on the bumper boats.

Later on we had finished our rides and it was so awesome and cool. I had never forgotten my first day at Rainbow’s End. When we finished we hopped in the car and I felt so sad and miserable because I was as tired as a baby ready for nap time.When we had arrived home I slowly made my way to my bedroom, onto the bed and ‘BOOM’ my eyes were shut closed and that was the end of my journey to Rainbow’s End.

Movie Magic Evaluation



I think that a tripod is the most important element to Movie making because...If we had no tripods our movies would be shaky, wobbly and really annoying because you have to stay still for a very long time till it is over or you would have to be always trying to fix it every one minute to fix it up.

I put a flash camera and are range of camera shots and angles second because...
We could use the flash camera to put on the tripod and how would we make our movies if we didn't have the flash camera at all. I also chose different kinds of  angles because if we just chose to do only one thing(eg:Long Shots only) our movie wouldn't be interesting at all.

I think the least important element is Fancy costumes because...
I choose that because you could just wear anything not just fancy things then you could wear what ever the movie is about.

Other important elements that aren’t included here are...

  • Props
  • Practising and more Practising.
  • Being confident

My biggest lightbulb moment while learning about movie magic was...
I didn't know that it was a lot of work and I learnt a lot from it. I even started to be more confident in front of the camera and not afraid to speak in front of the audience.

Room 8 Speeches

Room 8 have been studying Movie Magic. Part of making movies, is speaking clearly. We put this into practice by planning, crafting, practicing and presenting speeches. The topics we chose, were topics that would influence the thinking of others. We hope you enjoy!

My Speech Reflection


How did you feel about presenting your speech to the class?
I felt a bit nervous at the start and while I was going through I started to feel confident because my classroom wasn't laughing at my mistakes and they made me feel like I'm not shy and not afraid to speak..

What was the hardest part about preparing a speech?
The hardest part was the beginning of my speech because I was shy and nervous.


What did you enjoy most about speeches?
What I enjoyed most about my speech was when I started to get into the main event which was the part when I hooked in the audience to Recycle.


How could you improve your speech making next time?
I could add more information and add a story behind it like a narrative story.
